Frenchman too heavy to fly will go home from the US by ship
Wednesday, November 13th, 2013 3:33:54 by Ahmad MehdiA young Frenchman who had arrived in the US from his home country last year for obesity treatment will have to take a ship back after British Airways refused to fly him home.
22-year-old Kevin Chenais has a hormonal imbalance condition which has resulted in him gaining excessive weight (500 pounds). His family had originally booked a flight with British Airways, which deemed the young man too heavy to safely fly.
Kevin and his family stayed at a hotel close to the Chicago airport as they waited for British Airways to resolve the issue. However, they were refused in the end and had to ultimately travel to New York by train in order to sail for England.
Speaking to reporters after reaching New York, Kevin Chenais said, “It is mainly my parents who are angry.”
Kevin’s father also spoke against the British Airways, who have allegedly not reimbursed him for the tickets the family had purchased and the 13-day hotel stay.
According to a spokesperson for the airways, it was not safe to take Chenais by air due to him needing constant medical supervision and oxygen.
Now the family is set to sail for England on November 19.
