Markets in Rawalpindi closed after protests

Despite the government having lifted curfew in the city, protestors in Rawalpindi forced the shutdown of markets on Monday.

The Rawalpindi tragedy which happened on Friday during an Ashura procession left several dead and led to the government imposing a curfew and calling in the army to maintain law and order.

Several shops were also set on fire during the curfew on Friday and Saturday which led to extension of the curfew will Sunday. Now shops in Raja Bazar, Bara Market, Urdu Bazar and Sabzi Mandi have been closed, along with other major markets in the city.

 According to reports, the clashes on Friday left ten people dead and the Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah has stated that the government will make all details public and the people responsible for the tragedy will be prosecuted and brought to justice.
