Train crash in Egypt leaves 26 dead
Monday, November 18th, 2013 2:29:54 by Ahmad MehdiAccording to reports from Cairo, 26 people were killed after a train ran into a bus at a railway crossing.
The bus was said to be carrying wedding guests when it collided with the train, leading to 26 dead and 28 more injured in south Cairo on Monday.
Hussein Zakaria, head of the Egyptian Railway Authority shared that the bus ignored warning lights and tried to get across railway tracks despite them being closed.
“The bus stormed the crossing, according to initial reports,” he said.
However, the Egyptian railway does not exactly have a very good safety record with 47 children having died only last November when a train collided with their school bus. Another 17 deaths were the result of a train getting derailed in January as well.
The most recent incident happened after railway services were resumed countrywide following the disruption caused when the president Mohamed Morsi was overthrown earlier this year.
