Pakistan to take part in Special Olympics
Tuesday, November 26th, 2013 7:50:37 by Ahmad MehdiReports in Islamabad have confirmed that Pakistan is going to be taking part in the first Special Olympics Asia Pacific Games which will be taking place in Newcastle, Australia, from 17th of December.
The National Sports Director of the company, Arshad Javed, came out in the open to inform APP that the team will be taking part in these Special Olympics and will be competing for seven different medals. These sports include the like of athletics, aquatics, badminton, basketball, bocce, football and table-tennis.
Special Olympics is said to be the world’s largest sports organization which caters for people who are intellectually disable. It is being said that almost 4.2 million athletes will be taking part in this sports gala which will cater more than 160 countries and several million volunteers. Pakistan has been a part of this sports fest since the year 1989.
Arshad Javed also stated about the time of departure for all the athletes. He claimed that the plane will depart from the Karachi Airport on 27th of November so the team can reach the venue on time.
The organization which caters for all these intellectually disabled people in Pakistan has been taking part in different world events. The World Summer Games 2011 was the last time Pakistan took part in such an event and were able to win 58 medals in Athens, Greece.
