Barcelona Win 6-1 Against Celtic
Friday, December 13th, 2013 4:00:11 by Ahmad MehdiBarcelona, who were not expected to come out this strong without Lionel Messi, were finally able to seal a 6-1 victory against their European opponents, Celtic, during the midweek.
The UEFA Champions League kicked off on Thursday and Barcelona had to face their European opponents, Celtic. However, the Catalan giants had already qualified for the next round and therefore their coach, Tata Martino, decided to field a relatively weaker team.
Martino had to keep in mind the fact that he had been receiving a lot of criticism lately and in order to avoid that, he took no chances up front.
He fielded Pedro Rodriguez, Alexis Sanchez and Neymar up front and that paid off really well for the Spanish champions.
With Lionel Messi out, Neymar was the one who played in the false 9 position and he was able to perform beautifully in that position. The Brazilian youngster was able to score 3 goals on the night, his first ever hat-trick for Barcelona and that too in the UEFA Champions League.
The other three goals were scored by Gerard Pique, Pedro Rodriguez and Cristian Tello.
Celtic were also able to score a consolation goal as Samaras headed the ball into the goal during the dying moments of the game.
