Manchester United Qualify for the Carling Cup Semi-Final
Thursday, December 19th, 2013 1:58:03 by Ahmad MehdiAfter securing only the eighth position in the English Premier League, the current Premier League champions have still not lost hope as they have managed to qualify for the semi-final stage of the Carling Cup.
Manchester United faced Stoke City while being away from home. The quarter-final game was well anticipated by both the fans as Stoke were considered to be though opponents. However, despite not playing Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie, United still managed to win the game 0-2, with Patrice Evra and Ashley Young being on target.
The first goal came with the help of Ashley Young who was able to score a scorcher from outside the box after a layoff from Javier Hernandez. Later, Patrice Evra doubled the scoring with his weaker right foot as he entered the penalty area despite being a left-back.
Manchester United will now be taking part in the Premier League over the weekend and even though they have not been securing a lot of points in the league, they are still expected to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.
Moyes and his men will also be preparing for the semi final game in which they have been drawn against Sunderland, a team that recently managed to beat Chelsea in their quarter final fixture.
