Defence Minister Backs Pakistani Soldiers Against Militants
Friday, December 20th, 2013 3:57:39 by Ahmad MehdiIt was reported from Islamabad that the Pakistan Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, has claimed that it was the right of the Pakistani soldiers to retaliate against the foreign terrorists who tried to kill them while they were travelling in a convoy.
On Wednesday it was revealed that a group of militants tried to attack the Pakistani soldiers in North Waziristan and during the retaliation, they managed to kill a few of them. Several Pakistani soldiers were injured and later a militant group even accepted the responsibility of the attack. They claimed that the whole plan was made to avenge the death of Baitullah Meshud, who was recently killed due to a drone strike.
The Pakistani Defence Minister was asked questions regarding the whole situation and since several militants lost their lives in the crossfire, Khawaja Asif claimed that the soldiers have the right to defend their lives and also the integrity of the country. While talking to Geo TV, Khawaja Asif said:
“We would not cede our right to defend.”
Pakistan has been experiencing a lot of problems in terms of security and the day this incident took place, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf Chairman, Imran Khan also received death threats.
