Pakistan and Turkey pledge more cooperation in different sectors
Tuesday, December 24th, 2013 11:06:43 by Ahmad MehdiAfter a meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif stated “we have just concluded a comprehensive review of our bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern. Our discussions were marked by unanimity of views on all issues.”
According to reports, the key areas under discussion were energy, development, trade, housing and the ECO Container Train.
In moves to strengthen ties between the two countries, Pakistan and Turkey will be concluding a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) early next year as well. The Prime Ministers also agreed upon strategic ties which are future oriented.
The Turkish Prime Minister, Erdogan, said that the country wanted better ties with Pakistan and expand political, economic, trade, military and cultural relations. He also appreciate that PM Nawaz Sharif was prompt to visit Turkey soon after taking charge following the recent elections.
According to the Turkish Prime Minister, trade relations between the two countries are not currently on the level expected and there is need for significant improvement. He also hoped that the Preferential Trade Agreement decided upon will pave the way for stronger bilateral ties in the future.
