Pakistan’s former strongman General(R) Pervez Musharraf rushed to Hospital
Thursday, January 2nd, 2014 4:30:06 by Ahmad MehdiFormer Pakistan Army Chief and the country’s once all powerful president Gen(R) Pervez Musharraf has been rushed to a heart hospital, while he was on his way to the court.
Musharraf, who overturned Nawaz Sharif’s government, via a coup in 1999 after the latter allegedly tried to assassinate him mid-air, remained Pakistan’s president till 2008, when he was forced to resign from his post. In the years that followed, he was charged with the murder of former Pakistan Premier Benazir Bhutto. The more serious charge however came in the form of high treason, under the current government, headed by none other than Nawaz Sharif himself.
It was Musharraf’s hearing in this very case, which he was enroute to attending, when his condition got worse and he had to be rushed to the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology, located in the Rawalpindi Cantonment Area near Army’s General Head Quarters.
The former president has already missed two hearings in this very case due to bomb scares, and many people perceive it as just another delaying tactic. The court is expected to give a ruling on this case by evening.
