Musharraf’s wife seeks removal of his name from ECL
Sunday, January 5th, 2014 11:31:08 by Hunain NaseerBegum Sehba Musharraf, the wife of the retired general and former President of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf, has reportedly requested the ministry of interior to remove her husband’s name from the ECL (Exit Control List).
Musharraf, who had left the country after stepping down from office, returned this year ahead of the elections. While he could not compete in the elections, his return was not uneventful as he was charged with treason.
The case, which is with a special court, has been delayed due to security issues and more recently, Musharraf’s health. The former military ruler is currently admitted in AFIC, where he was rushed this week after complaining of heart ache.
Musharraf’s wife had left for Dubai the day before he was admitted and had to return after only a short stay to visit him in hospital the next day.
Now, his wife has submitted an application citing several reasons, including his illness, to try and get his name off the ECL. It is believed that Musharraf might want to go abroad along with his family members for treatment and leave the country.
It is pertinent to mention that if he is convicted of treason by the special court, the punishment for it is death or life imprisonment.
