Violence in Karachi leads to a trail of bodies
Sunday, January 5th, 2014 11:59:11 by Hunain NaseerWith violence continuing across the city of Karachi in Pakistan, another twelve people have been reported dead, including two police officers.
In what appears to be part of sectarian clashes, five people were shot and four were injured in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area. An early morning attack saw three Shia men shot in Maskan Chowrangi.
According to reports 8 gunmen came on motorbikes and opened fire on people outside a local juice shop. First they fired on a parked van and then turned to the people standing at the shop before fleeing.
The victims, identified as Hussain Ali (40), Abdul Wahid (22) and Nadir Ali (40), passed away as they were rushed to the nearest hospital.
The four injured people were Ghulam Sakhi (50), Tassawwur Abbas (25), Jawad Ai (33) and Rais Ahmed (19).
Yesterday two men were also shot according to police reports. While one man was shot in Sheeri Jinnah colony in Clifton, the other was injured during firing on police in Orangti town No.4.
The violence which started on Friday evening saw at least 13 people killed by Saturday. According to the Rangers, political powers are behind the killings and evidence is being collected to bring the culprits to justice.
