Buses Collide in Murree – At Least 12 Killed
Thursday, January 9th, 2014 10:12:57 by Ahmad MehdiIt was reported from Rawalpindi that more than a dozen passengers lost their lives and more than 38 were severely injured as two buses fell into a gorge during rainy weather near Saalgran.
The weather made it difficult for the rescue teams and the army troops were recruited for the job. in order to assist the civil administration, few troops of the army had to be present on the scene in order to save precious lives of most of the passengers who were travelling from Islamabad and Rawalpindi towards Murree.
Both the buses were trying to overtake each other on a sharp turn. However, due to the slippery road both the buses collided with each other and slipped into a gorge.
Upon hearing about the accident, the current Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif asked the security officials to supervise the rescue operation.
A local resident from Saalgran was eyewitness to the whole scene and he was questioned about what exactly happened. According to him, “Both the buses were going in the same direction when the rammed into each other and fell one after the other, as drivers of both the vehicles lost control over the vehicles.”
