Zardari Not Indicted in Polo Ground Reference Case
Friday, January 10th, 2014 10:17:17 by Ahmad MehdiIt was reported from Islamabad that former president of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, appeared before the accountability court on Thursday but he was still not indicted in the Polo Ground reference case.
The case was heard by the accountability court judge, Muhammad Bashir. Farooq H. Naek was the counsel of former president of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari. He came out to speak to the media and claimed that his client was not indicted during the hearing that took place on January 9th. Therefore, the proceedings have now been deferred to January 18th.
For now Zardari’s comments have not been recorded by the court. According to assistant lawyer, Amjad Iqbal, the arguments will be presented in the next hearing along with Zardari’s own indictment.
Former president of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, is currently being tried for five allegations which have been levelled against him. These five allegations include Polo Ground, SGS, Ursus tractors deal, Cotecna and ARY Gold cases.
The same references were levelled against him during the time Asif Ali Zardari was the president of Pakistan. However, he was enjoying immunity during those times and all the cases were deferred.
The court has earlier released the co-accused in the reference against former president of Pakistan.
