Appellate Court upholds conviction of Michael Jackson’s doctor
Thursday, January 16th, 2014 11:17:01 by Hunain NaseerCalifornia’s 2nd District Court of Appeal unanimously upheld former cardiologist Conrad Murray’s conviction for involuntary manslaughter in the Michael Jackson case. The doctor was released just three months before after having served two years in jail on account of causing the death of Michael Jackson back in 2009.
The ruling, which is over 68 pages, lists the evidence against Murray, who was convicted in 2011 on account of administering a lethal dose of propofol, an anesthetic. The trial, which spanned six weeks, focused on how Murray looked after Michael Jackson back in 2009.
The appellate court reached the decision that Michael Pastor, the Superior Court Judge, rightfully imposed a four-year sentence on the doctor.
The court’s statement read that Murray’s “callous disregard for Mr. Jackson’s health and safety was shown throughout the trial from the manner in which he administered a number of dangerous drugs to Mr. Jackson without the appropriate medical equipment, precautions or personnel in place, and to the manner in which he left Mr. Jackson unattended.”
“The evidence demonstrated that Mr. Jackson was a vulnerable victim and that (Murray) was in a position of trust, and that (Murray) violated the trust relationship by breaching standards of professional conduct in numerous respects,” the court further added.
Conrad Murray was released from prison in October after a change in California law required nonviolent offenders to serve their time in county jails.
