Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif invites anyone who can make progress in talks with Taliban
Thursday, January 16th, 2014 10:42:55 by Hunain NaseerNawaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, stated yesterday that it was not the sole prerogative of the government to hold peace talks with Taliban and that anyone, including Imran Khan, Maulana Samiul Haq, Maulana Fazl and Munawar Hassan are welcome to be part of the process if they can make progress.
Speaking to the host of the television programme Jirga, Saleef Safi, the Prime Minister said that he will be reaching out to other leaders like Imran Khan to involve them in the peace talk process with the Taliban.
The PM pointed out that the presence of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) leadership in the PC (All Parties Conference) shows that the nation, the government and the forces were all united in this effort. According to him, everyone being on the same page will “help in the negotiations process”.
Nawaz Sharif stated that the military accepted, supported and endorsed the decisions of the All Parties Conference. “Even today, the army wants the political leadership to handle the issue of talks with the Taliban,” he shared.
Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman, Imran Khan, lamented that all the parties which had agreed to holding peace talks with the Taliban have backtracked from the proposal. The PM however has shared his intention of working towards the peace talk process.
