Bomb blast kills four and injures fourteen in Rawalpindi

Early Monday morning saw a bomb blast in the RA Bazar area of Rawalpindi which claimed four lives and injured a further fourteen people.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred when a suicide bomber was found riding on a bicycle and blew himself up when intercepted. The blast killed four people including a young 19-year-old college student.

The early morning blast occurred at a time when school going children were in transit and according to rescue and hospital sources, the fourteen people injured included school children as well.

Security forces reached the site of the blast immediately and the whole area was cordoned off and residents were instructed to stay in their homes. A bomb disposal squad was also called in to make sure the area was safe.

The blast also damaged nearby buildings and security was tightened in the area after the blast. No one was being allowed inside or in the vicinity of the site as forces cordoned off the whole area.

Media personnel were also unable to gain access and further investigations are underway. No group or terrorist outfit has as yet claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing.
