TTP claims responsibility for Rawalpindi bomb blast
Monday, January 20th, 2014 10:57:33 by Hunain NaseerResponsibility for the bomb blast which occurred in the RA Bazar area of Rawalpindi on Monday morning has been claimed by the TTP. The blast was a result of a Taliban suicide bomber, who was riding a bicycle and blew himself up upon apprehension.
The RA Bazar market is near the Pakistan Army HQ in the city and is part of one of the most secure areas in Rawalpindi. The blast however claimed four lives, including a young 19-year-old college student and injured another fourteen people.
The spokesman for Taliban, Shahidullah Shahid claimed responsibility for the attack on behalf of the group. Another recent bombing took place near North Waziristan on Sunday, killing 20 soldiers and injuring several more.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had to cancel his trip to Switzerland in the face of these recent attacks. Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has held the PM responsible for these attacks on account of his inability to lead the peace talks process.
The current government and the PM himself have expressed eagerness to continue dialog with the insurgents but they have also been facing increased pressure from terrorist attacks since winning the elections last year.
The PM has also called in a special Federal Cabinet meeting today to discuss and approve the National Security Policy draft, which aims at improving and enriching law enforcement agencies of the country in order to deal with the increasing threats.
