PTI vows to stand in the way of Pakistan Protection Ordinance
Monday, January 27th, 2014 11:38:49 by Ahmad MehdiContinuing with its tactics of being a stumbling block in the way of any decisive measure the government tries to take against the Taliban and other militants on every possible forum; Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf has now vowed to block the passing of the ordinance in National Assembly’s eighth session today.
Terming the ordinance which will give the security agencies an open hand in persecuting anyone and everyone who is against Pakistan, PTI’s Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi revealed that the party has called a meeting of its parliamentarians to devise a strategy which can allow them to block the legislation.
“We have serious reservations over the PPO,” said Qureshi and also urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take a suo moto notice;
“I would request the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo moto notice of this ordinance,” he said.
He also alleged that the government is confused over what it needs to do to stop the terrorism menace and also urged the government to define strict parameters, if indeed any military action need to be taken.
“If the government wants to launch a military operation, it should say so and define the parameters of the operation”.
