Government Stops Malala Book Launch in KP
Wednesday, January 29th, 2014 11:21:21 by Ahmad MehdiIt was reported from Peshawar that a ceremony was to take place in Peshawar University for Malala Yousafzai’s book launch. However, it was stopped after the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government intervened and told the university director that they will be unable to provide full security for this event.
Malala Yousafzai, who is famous for standing up for child education and the fact that she got shot by Taliban, recently came out with her own book, “I Am Malala.” The book was to get launched Tuesday, but due to security reasons the government stated that Peshawar University should not carry on with the event.
The Bacha Khan Education Foundation (BKEF), Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO) and Area Study Centre were all involved in the book launch. The director of BKEF explained how the government approached him personally and stated that they cannot provide full security for this event.
The Area Study Centre’s director, Sarfraz Khan, also claimed that he was stopped by different government officials in order to stop this ceremony from taking place. Sources claim that despite the fact that several government officials asked him to stop this ceremony, he was still willing to carry on since it was promoting child education.
However, the head of Campus Peace Corps came into the picture and stopped the event from taking place.
