Initial Hearing for Muzaffargarh Rape Case takes place in Supreme Court
Tuesday, February 4th, 2014 2:56:53 by Hunain NaseerThe Supreme Court of Pakistan presided over the initial hearing of the suo moto case related to the recent gang rape in Muzaffargargh. The three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Tassadduq Hussain Jilani, sat over the hearing on Tuesday and ordered the Inspector General Punjab to submit a report related to the case in ten days.
The Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Kot Addu appeared for the hearing along with the FIR and medical report related to the gang rape case.
The three-judge bench was not happy with the absence of the Inspector General, who was supposed to be present at the hearing.
Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed inquired about the IG’s absence from the Additional Advocate General Punjab as well, since a notice had been issued to the former.
Afterwards the court issued an order for the IG to appear for the next hearing along with a detailed report of the incident within ten days. The hearing was then adjourned for 10 days, till the 14th of February.
Last Friday, the Chief Justice, Tassadduq Hussain Jillani took suo moto notice of the incident, where a panchayat ordered the gang rape of a woman in the Muzaffargarh district. According to the Additional Advocate General, 9 out of the 10 people involved in the panchayat have been arrested and are in police custody.
