Peace Talks on Hold as Taliban Slaughter 23 Soldiers
Monday, February 17th, 2014 7:29:45 by Ahmad MehdiRecently it came into the knowledge of the press that Taliban came out in the open and admitted that the soldiers they had in custody since 2010 were all killed. This has put the peace talks in jeopardy as the Pakistani government is still trying to ponder whether Taliban are up for the peace talks or not.
Pakistani Government and Tehreek E Taliban were willing to have a dialogue which was labelled as ‘peace talks’ due to the fact that both the parties wanted to cease fire. However, after this particular incident it is becoming quite a one-sided peace story. It is only the Pakistani government that is extending its hand towards Taliban while they are resisting at the moment.
Nawaz Sharif spoke to the press and expressed how events like these are putting a negative image of the peace talks that are about to begin. He claimed that the government has always wanted to commence this process with sheer sincerity yet Taliban are not really complying with what the Pakistani government has to say.
The Prime Minister was absolutely saddened by the death of all these 23 soldiers. Now the committee is going to check the progress of the talks and take a final decision soon.
