Govt-Taliban Talks Reach a Deadlock
Monday, February 24th, 2014 10:59:54 by Ahmad MehdiReports received from Islamabad claim that the deadlock which existed between the government and Taliban still exists as both the parties have not spoken to each other since eight days.
Both the parties were involved in heavy discussion regarding peace and ceasefire; however, since Taliban slaughtered 23 Frontier Cops they held in captivity since June 2010, Pakistani government took this as a signal of war.
This is where the mediators from the government side decided to pull out of the talks. On February 17th there was extreme outrage amongst everyone regarding the killing of the FC personnel who were killed.
After all the incidents, people representing the Pakistani government claimed that in order to continue the government-Taliban peace talks, Taliban should opt for a ceasefire. However, a representative of the Tehreek E Taliban, Shahidullah Shahid, stated that the Pakistani government should opt for a ceasefire first. Moreover, he also blamed Islamabad for the deadlock.
Tehreek E Taliban has been responsible for several bloody attacks in Pakistan since 2007. During this time they have carried out a number of bomb and gun attacks; most of them targeting the military.
Even though statements have been heard from both the parties, so far the deadlock continues and the peace talks have been stalled.
