Tuesday, March 4th, 2014 5:52:44 by Hunain NaseerSikandar Hayar, Inspector General Police (IGP) Islamabad has shared that the assailants of the Islamabad district court used Kalashnikovs and hand grenades.
The attack on Islamabad district court located in F-8 took place on Monday morning and resulted in the death of 11 people and 30 more were reportedly injured.
Talking to reports today, the IGP stated that only two attackers were involved in the assault. However, conflicting reports regarding the number of assailants have been coming in from various sources.
Among those who died were a senior judge and four lawyers, and eye witnesses report that security forces were not present on the scene despite 30 minutes or so of firing.
Having taken suo-moto notice of the case, the Supreme Court of Pakistan asked for detailed reports and ordered for the installation of CCTV security cameras in all courts of Rawalpindi and Islamabad within 48 hours.
IGP Sikandar Hayat also shared that half the deaths were a result of bullets fired while the other died from the bomb explosion. He further revealed that a boundary wall will be erected around the Islamabad district court and four entry/exit points will be made. These points will be gated and CCTV cameras will also be installed to boost security.
