Lawyers across Pakistan boycott Court proceedings to mourn Islamabad Attack
Tuesday, March 4th, 2014 4:54:11 by Hunain NaseerAfter the unfortunate terrorist attack on Islamabad district court yesterday, lawyers throughout Pakistan are observing a strike today, on Tuesday.
The attack, which left 11 people dead, claimed the lives of one judge and four lawyers among others, and also resulted in 30 people being injured. The Islamabad High Court and District Bar have announced a7-day mourning while lawyers in other cities are observing a strike only today after a call by Pakistan Bar Association.
The Legal fraternity has demanded the apprehension of those responsible for the attacks, and even lawyers in Balochistan stayed away from court proceedings at the call of the Balochistan High Court Bar Association.
According to reports, a group of 6 armed attackers entered the Islamabad district court area in sector F-8 yesterday morning and opened fire. They killed one senior judge and four lawyers in what witnesses say was a firing episode lasting well over 20 minutes.
Subsequently, two of the attackers blew themselves up while four fled the scene and are as yet not apprehended.
Lawyers have asked the government to improve security in courts and compensate the families of those who lost their lives.
