Khursheed Shah Does Not Want Army Involved in Peace Talks
Thursday, March 6th, 2014 8:49:07 by Ahmad MehdiIt was recently reported from Islamabad that the opposition leader in the national assembly, Khursheed Shah, is of the opinion that army should not be involved while the government is trying to negotiate with the Taliban in the peace talks.
He claims that involving the army in these peace talks would only be dangerous as they might take an aggressive stance. He also claimed that the army falls under the government and they should act according to what the government has asked them to do.
While talking to the media he said, “The army is meant to obey the government orders and armed forces involvement in talks with the terrorists will produce a very dangerous result.”
He claims that in case the army is involved in this dialogue, it would mean that the government has agreed that it is a separate institution and it has a decision of its own.
However, he also stated that it is not going to be a problem if a former member of the army is willing to participate in the peace talks. He said, “The terrorists are the murderers of 60,000 Pakistanis and it would be unfortunate to see the army sitting with them.”
