US Senate Report says CIA’s use of torture for interrogation yielded no key evidence
Tuesday, April 1st, 2014 3:00:46 by Hunain NaseerAccording to a recent senate report the interrogation methods used by the CIA, which included torture, yielded no key evidence related to the apprehension of Osama bin Laden.
The 6,200-page report, if confirmed, will challenge the former administration’s claim that the CIA’s interrogation techniques were essential in rooting out terrorism.
The Associated Press was told by congressional aides that around 6 million highly classified documents were reviewed before it was concluded that the CIA’s questionable interrogation methods were not beneficial.
The intelligence committee of the US senate will now hold a vote in the coming days to decide whether a summary of the actual report will be declassified or not.
Dianne Feinstein, the committee’s democrat chair and the CIA have not had the best of terms since she openly accused the latter of trying to interfere in the report’s findings since their approval in December 2012.
The most important finding is believed to be related to the effectiveness of methods used by the CIA in places like the Bagram Airbase and the Guantanamo Bay detention center – both of which saw questionable treatment being meted out to suspects.
