Explosion in Islamabad as Musharraf shifted from Hospital to Home
Thursday, April 3rd, 2014 10:39:14 by Hunain NaseerAccording to the latest reports, an explosion took place in Islamabad after the former General and President Pervez Musharraf was shifted from the hospital where he was under treatment.
The explosion was near the Faizabad flyover, but only happened after the retired General’s convoy had passed. Pervez Musharraf was shifted to his Chak Shehzad farmhouse unharmed.
Police sources report that the blast was targeted at Musharraf’s convoy, and was a result of a bomb planted a short distance from the Faizabad flyover. They also shared that the bomb had around half a kilogram of explosive material and left a foot-deep crater.
The former President finally left the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology after three months, as he was moved there back in January, after he suffered from a heart condition.
Earlier, Pervez Musharraf was formally indicted for treason charges by the special court set up to try him. However, he pleaded not guilty to treason and gave a speech about his achievements as the country’s leader.
Presently, he and his counsel are seeking permission for him to leave the country and visit his ailing mother. However, the court has placed the ball in the government’s court, which is unwilling to remove Musharraf’s name from the ECL.
