Pakistan raises 1.1 billion after 3G & 4G Auctions
Friday, April 25th, 2014 2:40:44 by Ahmad MehdiIt was recently reported from Islamabad that the government of Pakistan was able to raise more than $1.1 billion after they auctioned the much-awaited 3G and 4G licenses to different telecom companies in the country.
The government decided to sell four licenses and now these companies will be allowed to provide fast speed broadband internet to all their users.
It is now being said that this upgrade is going to boost the Pakistani economy and improve the communication across the country.
3G is currently a norm in almost all the countries across the globe. Despite having more than 132 million mobile phone users across the country, Pakistan still lagged behind in providing this technology to its users. Even the neighbouring country, Afghanistan, which is far less developed, has managed to provide it to its mobile phone users.
The successful bidders for 3G services included Norway’s Telenor, Russian-owned Mobilink, Pakistani Ufone and Zong, which is a part of China mobile.
All these four operators are established players in the country. Zong, has managed to become the only company that has a 4G license.
Now the rest of the companies are having a 3G license and this has given Zong a competitive advantage over others.
