Pakistan Buys 101,000 tonnes of Canola from Canada
Saturday, April 26th, 2014 11:07:17 by Ahmad MehdiIt was recently reported that Pakistani importers have purchased almost 101,000 tonnes of rapeseed from Canada.
One of the shipments included 55000 tonnes of oilseeds, also known as canola. They cost Pakistan $589/tonne.
Another consignment included 46000 tonnes of oilseeds. This was for the August shipment and this has cost Pakistan $575/tonne.
Back in March Pakistani importers bought 90,000 tonnes of canola from Canada.
It is to be brought to attention that the Pakistani sunflower harvest has already begun and it is enough to meet the local needs of the country. However, traders expect that there might be a shortfall during the months of July and August.
Traders also spoke about other stalks which are currently being imported and exported in and out of Pakistan. Sources claimed that Pakistan is not willing to export wheat right now. They claimed that the price of wheat in the international market is really high and there are not enough buyers. However, the country is still exporting it to Sri Lanka for $350/tonne.
Another report from the Trades Association claimed that the country might be required to import wheat as they might meet a shortfall by the end of August and start of September.
