Ministry of Water & Power for Reviewing Upfront Tariff for Coal-based Plants
Wednesday, April 30th, 2014 12:55:45 by Ahmad MehdiIt was recently reported from Islamabad that the Ministry of Water and Power came out in the open to state that the government had earlier provided Upfront Tariff for energy projects based on coal. They expect these projects to generate cheap electricity.
NEPRA has already announced a few projects in this regards. They have given upfront tariffs for coal-based projects of 200, 600 and 1000 MW capacity. This was announced in June last year. However, for now, not a single investor has taken the first step to avail this tariff on the coal-based power plant.
Now the Ministry of Water and Power have required NEPRA to review the tariff plan which they came out with. They want the investors to get attracted towards these coal-based projects since the country needs them desperately at the moment.
Pakistan is currently short on number of electricity units which are being produced throughout the country. This is the reason why the whole country is experiencing load shedding and this has in return made it difficult for the industry to operate at maximum potential.
Now NEPRA is expected to revise their Upfront Tariff for coal-based projects soon.
