Mushtaq Ahmed appointed Spin-bowling consultant

Legendary leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed has been appointed as the spin-bowling consultant for the Pakistan Cricket team. Mushtaq Ahmed was previously employed by the England Cricket team for the same post and his coaching greatly improved the English spin bowling. 

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed Mushtaq Ahmed, who us the second big name to be added to the coaching staff, followed by WaqarYounis being appointed as head coach.

Mushtaq Ahmed, at his peak, was considered one of the top three wrist spin bowlers in the World. He played internationally for Pakistan from 1990-2003 and his considered a master in the art of googly. He was prolific domestically for Sussex, where he was the leading wicket taker for 5 consecutive years. His services led to Sussex winning the championship 3 times during that era.

The choice came down between Mushtaq and another legendary spinner SaqlainMushtaq for the spin-bowling consultant post. The board, however, chose Mushtaq, who has been a close friend and colleague of head coach Waqar. Both Waqar and Mushtaq have played together internationally as well as for Multan and UBL.

Mushtaq Ahmed would be a welcome addition to the coaching staff, following Pakistan’s early demise from the T20 World Cup in March. Mushtaq will be expected improve the form of the spinners in preparation for the 2015 Cricket World cup.
