Ramdin is New Captain of West Indies Test Cricket Team

West Indies Cricket Board has announced this Friday May 09, 2014 Denesh Ramdin as the new captain of the West Indies Test cricket team replacing Darren Sammy who will remain the captain of the Twenty20 cricket squad.

Denesh Ramdin, 29, had played 56 test matches and 109 one day international cricket matches. He has played 46 Twenty 20 matches as well.  Ramdin calls the captaincy of the West Indies cricket team as an honor.

Ramdin said, “It is an honor to be named as captain of the West Indies Test team. This is a huge opportunity and as a unit we are capable of representing the people of the West Indies.”

“I am taking over from Darren who did a good job while he was at the helm”, said Ramdin. “He is a very humble and hardworking cricketer and during his time at the helm we won six matches and he gave his all to the job”.

The new skipper further added, “My first assignment will be against New Zealand at home and this promises to be a very exciting series.” West Indies cricket team is playing against New Zealand cricket team in Jamaica starting on June 8.

While making the announcement of the new captain, Dave Cameron, president of West Indies Cricket Board said, “We thank Darren for his energetic and resolute leadership over the past four years and we continue to see his role as the Twenty20 captain as a critical one.”
 
Darren Sammy congratulated the new captain and thanked his team mates and fans for their support.
