The fighting in the breakaway province Donetsk have increased on Friday and left, according to local media, at least eight dead and several wounded.

Clashes between the two sides have occurred when a group of at least 60 insurgents, according to the agencies, have tried to take the seat of the local police and Ukrainian security forces have responded with gunfire to try to regain control of the building. Mariupol had become the scene of an escalation of violence in recent weeks.

As published on his Facebook page of the Ukrainian Interior Minister, Arsen Avakov, security forces have killed 20 pro-Russian who had participated in the assault of the building.

The Russian news agency Interfax reported that Ukrainian troops are trying to seize control of the territories occupied by Russian groups using heavy weapons buildings. Journalist Tetiana Ignatchenko, located in the city, has confirmed that there is intense fighting outside the headquarters of the police, which has also been taken by the pro-Russian rebels. The Ukrainian forces several armored vehicles had moved to the city, a major industrial and naval center with a population of around half a million inhabitants.

Journalists from ITV News have written in his Twitter account that there are columns of smoke from the tires piled into barricades that are found in various parts of the city. The cameraman Daniel Demoustier wrote: “I just burn heavy fighting in Mariupol There are snipers everywhere They shot a man very close to me There’s black smoke over the city….”

Clashes occur on the same day that the Victory Day Soviet Army over Nazi Germany in World War II is celebrated. While Kiev has been limited to a discrete commemoration celebrations in Moscow have resulted in a massive military parade.
