Army and Rebels Accuse Each Other for Breaking Peace Deal in South Sudan
Monday, May 12th, 2014 7:14:30 by Jamshed SindhuThe Government of Southern Sudan President Salva Kiir and the followers of the former vice president Riek Machar rebels have accused each other of violating ceasefire signed on Friday and came into force on Saturday.
The army spokesman Philip Aguer, explained in a statement to Reuters that government forces have been attacked in two positions the oil Unity state near the strategic town of Bentiu, where there was an ethnic slaughter in April that raised alarms international by the possibility that genocide occurred.
“They attacked only six hours after the ceasefire came into force,” Aguero said, adding that the Army could reject both attacks.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the rebels, Lul Koang Ruai, denounced Army offensive operations in the states of Unity and Upper Nile. At the moment there is no way to verify through an independent source of such information and the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) do not have any data about it.
