Imran Khan Demands Formation of New Election Commission

Imran Khan while addressing a protest rally in the capital city of Islamabad on May 11, 2014 has demanded resignation of members of the Pakistan election commission as “people no longer have confidence in them”. According to reports about 25,000 Pakistan Tahreek-i-Insaf supporters gathered at the D-Chowk to register their protest against , corruption, unemployment, power shortage and escalating commodity prices. Sheikh Rashid, leader of Awami Muslim League, also addressed the rally.

PTI presented list of nine demands including resignation of election commission. “We demand the election commission to immediately resign because the nation has no confidence in them,” Imran Khan said.

Imran Khan said that government is accusing him to try to get the democracy derailed in the country. But government with a fake mandate cannot claim of democracy.

“The government has accused me of attempting to derail democracy”, said Imran Khan, “but how can it claim of democracy with a fake mandate?”

Imran demanded that thumb verification of four constituencies should be carried out immediately and reiterated his readiness for verification anywhere, from where his party had won.

“If PML-N has genuinely won then why it is afraid of electoral investigations? I have not said anything strange and there is no threat to democracy from voters’ thumb verification,” said Imran Khan.

PTI leaders Javed Hashmi, Jehangir Tareen, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, AML President Sh Rashid Ahmad and Mian Muhammad Aslam of Jamaat-e-Islami also addressed the rally.
