Gas Discovered in Pakistan
Tuesday, May 13th, 2014 2:03:05 by Ahmad MehdiIt was recently reported from Islamabad that Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) has managed to discover a gas reserve with significant amount of fossil fuel in the district of Sujawal.
The announcement made by the representatives of MPCL claimed that this is the first hydrocarbon discovery in the Lower Goru Upper C-Sand. Many thought that this particular reservoir does not exist in the Southern most part of the country, but MPCL managed to dig it out.
The Sujjal-1 well, which is the second exploratory in this district, was spud on January 26, 2014. It had to be drilled down to a depth of 2535 kilometres. The source also revealed that after the digging, Sujjal-1 was able to flower gas and condensate at the rate of 13.1 million cubic feet per day. The discovered gas also has a good heating value of 1045 British thermal Unit.
The Sujawal block was awarded to MPCL as they were the only operator with 100 percent working interest back in June 21, 2006.
MPCL was able to dig its first exploration, Sujawal X-1 back in the year 2010. Since then they have been providing significant amount of gas to Sui Southern Gas Company Limited. Now this new discovery is going to be a new native supply source and is expected to add significantly to the nation’s depleting hydrocarbon reserves.
