Iran Understands Pakistan’s Stance on IP Pipeline
Thursday, May 15th, 2014 9:59:33 by Ahmad MehdiIt was recently reported from Islamabad that the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, came out in the open and explained how the international sanctions against Iran are still a hurdle for Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline. However, he also revealed that Iran is still willing to cooperate as it understands Pakistan’s stance on this matter.
While talking to the press, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said, “Iran is not angry with us and is aware of the situation.”
He claimed that both countries are fully cooperating so that this project can be fully operational. He also said that both the countries also understand how important it is for the growth of their relationship and economy.
The Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources stated that he understands that the gas reserves in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are currently depleting and the government is trying its best to solve this problem.
He stated that since some of the areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are not receiving any gas, the law and order situation can become troublesome. He exclaimed, “The KPK chief minister has informed us that they cannot control the law and order situation. “Gas production in KPK comprises 27% of total production, though it consumes 8% to 10%.”
The OGDC Managing Director, Riaz Khan, said that the current gas resources are depleting and efforts are being made to improve the situation.
