Former New Zealand test player Lou Vincent and Pakistani pace bowler Naveed Arif have been charged by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for their alleged involvement in match fixing in Twenty20 and 40-over county matches. ECB and International Cricket Council (ICC) have provisionally suspended the two players from all cricket competitions.

Vincent, aged 35, faces more than 10 charges of fixing, with some relating to a 40-over match between Sussex and Kent at Hove in August 2011. Others relate to another one-day game he played for Sussex in 2011.

Arif faces at least five counts relating to the Sussex v Kent fixture alone, according to the newspaper.

It emerged last week that Vincent told investigators he was approached by his fixer “NG” the day before the match in a hotel in Brighton and told he received £40,000 to throw the game.

Arif, aged 32, will be charged with being Vincent’s accomplice in allegedly rigging the match,

Lou Vincent, aged 35, faces 14 charges of fixing under ECB Anti-Corruption Code. Some of the charges relate to a 40-over match between Sussex and Kent at Hove in August 2011. Others relate to Twenty20 game played Sussex and Lancashire in 2011.

Naveed Arif, aged 32, is being charged with being Vincent’s accomplice in rigging the match and faces at least 6 offenses related to the 40-over game.

According to media reports, Vincent received £40,000 to lose the match. There were suspensions at that that time that the match was rigged. However, evidence was not found until recently when ECB charged the two cricket players.

Both the cricket players have been barred to play any cricket match.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi was quick to disown Naveed Arif and told reporters that Arif is out of Pakistan for the last three years and is playing cricket in England. Sethi further said that PCB has zero tolerance for corruption in cricket.
