Obama Surprises US Troops in Afghanistan
Sunday, May 25th, 2014 10:16:15 by Nadeem BajwaThe United States President Barack Obama landed at Bagram Airfield on Sunday to thank the American troops in Afghanistan. The visit was kept completely secret when the US president Obama left the White House on Saturday night to board Air Force One to travel 13 hours to arrive in Afghanistan prior to Memorial day weekend.
President Obama’s surprise visit is only limited to rallying with 32,000 American army personals ahead of the Memorial day. Most of the troops stationed in Afghanistan will be returning to the US by the end of this year as over a decade long war ends.
The US President will have a briefing from the US Army commanders in Afghanistan. However, no plan to meet the Afghan President Hamid Karazai during the trip is on the agenda.
President Obama’s administration is facing criticism from the veterans after the news of deaths of veterans due to lack of the medical treatment. Some see this trip as a mean to reduce the impact of the deaths of veterans.
Brad Paisley, a country music star, also accompanied the President Obama and will perform at a surprise concert for the USĀ troops at the Bagram airbase.
