14 Ukrainian soldiers die in Slaviansk

The Ukrainian Government attack against rebels in the east of the country, supporters of the same division, has taken strength Thursday on City Slaviansk. After the bloody battle for the capital of the region, Donetsk Airport Kiev troops have returned fire on Slaviansk and Kramatorsk with encouraging results for government forces. At least 13 soldiers and a Ukrainian general have died when the rebels have shot down the helicopter flying outside Slaviansk, Parliament has confirmed Alexandr Turchinov, interim president of Ukraine.

“Today I received information from the same Slaviansk about terrorists downed helicopter carrying our soldiers over. Fourteen soldiers were killed, including the general Kulchitski ” said Turchinov.

The 14 casualties are a significant moral blow to the Ukrainian Army. The operation against militants in East that does not give the central government is the subject of lively debate in Kiev, both in substance and by the looks of tactical disorganization that is developing. On May 22, 17  died in military attacks inVolnovakha and Lugansk.

The rebels say two helicopters were shot down around Slaviansk stronghold of supporters of closer ties with Russia. The rebels maintained that responded to attacks of aviation and missile launchers Grad ” There are military actions in the village of Mandríchino and have burned several homes of civilians.” The millitant also claim that several people have been injured in railway stations in Slaviansk and the next town of Semionovka.

Slaviansk is the same city where Vyacheslav Ponomarev, the self-proclaimed rebel mayor keeping the four OSCE observers who disappeared Monday after being detained by rebel control while traveling to the city of Lugansk Donetsk. In a meeting with reporters before the Ukrainian attacks were known, Ponomarev said that international observers will be released shortly and did not set any conditions for it. The mayor has insisted that his men warned the inspectors do not patrol the area, “but there were these four who insisted.” Neither the OSCE nor the Ukrainian Government have confirmed that observers are in Sloviansk.
