Prince Mishal Bin Abdullah, Governor of Makkah, led the ceremonial washing of the Holy Kaaba on Thursday morning May 29, 2014. Governor Makkah was representing the King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, .

 Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) created an example by washing the Kaaba after he entered it at the time of conquest of Makkah. Each year the example of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) is followed and ceremony to wash the Holy Kaaba is held.

Two raka’a of nawafil paryers are offered before starting the ceremony before the beginning of the month of Ramazan.

The floor is washed with bare hands and palm leaves using rose oud and musk. The walls and floor are dried using white cloth.

Saudi top officials including several ministers, Islamic scholars, Muslim diplomats as well as citizens and visitors to the Grand Mosque attended the washing ceremony of the Holy Kaaba.
