“I Killed My First Wife”, Admits Husband of Woman Stoned to Death
Friday, May 30th, 2014 9:07:45 by Shakira SubhaniMuhammad Iqbal, the husband of Farzana Parveen who was stoned to death on Tuesday in front of Lahore High Court, has admitted that he strangled his first wife to marry Farzana. Iqbal avoided the capital punishment due to a flaw in the law that allows the relatives of the victim to pardon the sentence.
Brutal killing of Farzana Parveen draw international outrage. Even Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had to order the Provincial government to submit report on the incident.
Farzana had married Muhammad Iqbal against the will of the family members as she liked him. Once both got married, Farzana’s parent registered police case of kidnapping against Iqbal. The couple was waiting outside the Lahore High Court when over two dozen people attacked them with bricks. Farzana died on the spot after suffering from serious head injuries.
Reports suggest that Farzana’s other sister was also killed by her family by poisoning, again due to same reason of marrying a person who she liked.
Muhammad Iqbal killed her fist wife about 6 years ago. However, his son forgave him which is allowed under the existing laws keeping him free from imprisonment or death sentence.
It is estimated that about 1000 women in Pakistan become the victim of honor killing.
