England Hopes to Host FIFA World Cup 2018 Replacing Russia

England still aspires to organize the 2018 World Cup, albeit by the back door. British Prime Minister David Cameron hinted that possibility Monday at a public symposium. And a former British sports minister demanded that if FIFA corruption overrides the World 2022 award to Qatar, Russia 2018 also set aside because it was decided the same day by the same people. FIFA will receive  report on the award of these World cup events within a week even though it will take several weeks to make a decision.

The investigation, led by one of the two presidents of the Ethics Committee of the organism, the U.S. Michael J. Garcia, and one of his two vice presidents, the Swiss Cornel Borbely, had began months ago to clarify allegations of bribes for award in December 2010 for the two World Cups. A statement from the commission confirmed on Monday that the report will be presented on June 9 and will be dispatched within six weeks to the Chamber Award.

These accusations have intensified this weekend, when the London newspaper The Sunday Times has published a lengthy report in which he claims to have found evidence that Qatar spent about four million euros in direct or indirect bribes to managers in world football to get the votes that defeated Australia in the race for the 2022 World Cup.

That same day, Russia defeated England’s bid for the 2018 World Cup, a defeat that the English did not expect and have never digested. Since then it holds an open war against FIFA, against Qatar and, above all, against Sepp Blatter, president of FIFA.

Although they have never directly accused Russia to win the race illegally, now aspiring to the apparent fiasco of Qatar also reopen the award of the 2018 World Cup.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of the UK coalition government, the Liberal Democrat Nick Clegg said that FIFA should withdraw Qatar organizing the 2022 World Cup if evidence was obtained with bribes.

Former British Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe also stressed that England is ready to host the World Cup because the stadiums are already built. England requires that the decision be annulled because Russia is taken for granted that the 2022 World Cup can not play in Europe and it seems very likely that the World Cup could go to Australia, defeated by the Arab emirate ‘s decision in December 2010. Granting Qatar World Cup would bring to the problem of deciding what time of year should be played, given the unbearable heat in summer in the area.  Every day new voices are emerging against granting Qatar the right to host 2022 FIFA world cup.
