ISIL claims execution of dozens of Iraqi soldiers
Monday, June 16th, 2014 2:50:59 by Khalil KhanThe jihadists of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) have claimed on Sunday the execution of dozens of members of the Iraqi security forces after making them prisoner, and have documented the action with photos posted online and disseminated by agencies Associated Press, France Presse. The images, which could not be independently verified, show summary executions. In one of the captions, Islamic radicals say they have executed hundreds of soldiers, although the published photos show only rows of dozens of bodies. ” This is the fate that awaits the Shiite Nuri has brought to fight the Sunnis,” says another.
The authenticity of the images published on Twitter and extremist web Wilayat Salahuddin and performed as jihadists in the province of Saladin, north of Baghdad, has been confirmed to AP by General Qasim al Moussaoui, spokesman for the Iraqi Army, who said he knows the existence of cases of mass killings of soldiers.
Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay warned on Friday of committing ” all kinds of murders ” and other war crimes in Iraq. From Geneva, Pillay said his office has received information on the assassination of Iraqi soldiers and at least 17 civilians in a single street of Mosul at the hands of militants ISIL. His team has also learned of ” summary executions and extrajudicial killings ” during the jihadist offensive.
The jihadists ISIL this week launched major offensive in Iraq, which have taken over large areas in the north and the center, including the second largest city, Mosul, and then continuing its advance toward Baghdad. To counter the offensive, the Iraqi government has set Sunday called for Popular Mobilization Directorate, in order to organize thousands of volunteers who have enlisted to fight the Sunni insurgency.
The National Security Advisor of Iraq, Faleh al Fayad said in Baghdad that this body has already opened volunteer registration centers in all provinces. ” Priority will be given to men that have military training and weapons possession. This mobilization will occur according to the law and the Constitution,” said Al Fayad.
Al Iraqiya state television today showed scenes of hundreds of men, some armed, registering as volunteers while chanting patriotic songs and hymns.
Although ISIL fighters have fallen to just under 100 miles from Baghdad, normalcy is far from the norm in the Iraqi capital. At least nine people were killed and a score on Sunday was injured by the explosion of a device in the center of the city. The explosive was located in the Bab al Sharqi, where many vendors are concentrated. Many of the injured were in serious condition.
