Russian journalist dies from bombing in Ukraine

The correspondent of the Russian State Television Radio (VGTRK), Igor Korneliuk, died Tuesday after being wounded in a barrage of mortar on the outskirts of the eastern city of Lugansk Ukraine, as reported by Sergey Babenko, deputy director of the hospital in which he died.

“The man who was admitted with documentation on behalf of Igor Korneliuk died 35 minutes after arriving at the hospital,” said Babenko the Interfax news agency. Dr. Fedir Solianik told AFP by telephone that Korneliuk “became unconscious ” and is deceased ” on the way to the operating room “. The doctor reported that the journalist had severe stomach injuries after being hit by shrapnel “from what appeared to be a mine or Granade.”

A spokesman for the separatists has said that Korneliuk and a sound technician -Anton Voloshin, who is still missing were caught in a grenade attack launched by the Ukrainian forces on the border with Russia. Russian reporter’s death is the secondĀ  journalist in the Ukrainian conflict, after the Italian photographer Andrea Rocchelli who died with his Russian assistant Andrei Mironov outside of Slaviask.
