Somali terrorists killed 20 in second attack in Kenya
Wednesday, June 18th, 2014 7:41:30 by Khalil KhanThe Somali militia Al Shabab claimed to have killed 20 people in a second night of attacks on villages near the Kenyan coast. Police confirmed to Agence France Presse that about 10 people have been killed by gunmen in Mpetekoni villages near the town where the Sunday night attack of this militia with weapons and explosives claimed 50 lives. Red Cross coordinator has told Reuters that militants killed 8 people in the area Poromoko.
The spokesman of the military operations of the Islamist militia contacted by phone with several news agencies to confirm the responsibility and provide details: ” We carried out another attack yesterday and have killed 20 speople, mostly police and Kenyan rangers. Commandos have done their duty and returned to their bases in a peaceful manner, “said Abdulaziz Abu Musab told Reuters and Agence France Presse.
Musab has not specified if the bases are returning to Kenya or in neighboring Somalia, whose border is about 60km north of the area.
In its claim of assault to Mpetekoni on Sunday night, the military warned that Kenya is “officially a war zone ” and that the attack was revenge for the military presence in Kenya and accused the authorities of being responsible for Nairobi assassination of Muslim leaders in Somalia.
Kenya – Nairobi and especially the coastal city of Mombasa, has been targeted since, in October 2011, the Army went into Somalia. The main pretext for military intervention was a wave of kidnappings on Kenyan soil that authorities blamed on the Somali Islamist militia. Today Kenyan troops have been absorbed into the peacekeeping mission of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta while addressing the nation has said, “The attack in Lamu was well-planned, orchestrated and politically motivated ethnic violence against a Kenyan community.”
Kenyan president further said that terrorist attack was not the work of Al Shabab. “Evidence indicates local political networks were involved in the planning and execution of the heinous attacks. This also played into the opportunist network of other criminal gangs,” President added.
