Thursday, June 19th, 2014 7:22:30 by Khalil KhanAt least 20 people have died, mostly women and children, in a barrage of Syrian army helicopters against a refugee camp close to the border with Jordan, as reported by residents and opposition activists cited by Reuters.
According to these sources, the helicopters have launched several bomb barrels against field in the town of Shajra, 2 kilometers from the border with Jordan.
“Women screamed hysterically at the sight of their dead children on the floor,” he told Abu Mohammad al-Hourani, a farmer of this town that claims to have helped remove the bodies after the bombing, which occurred at dawn.
Hundreds of families had sought refuge in this town near the border, Jordan closed last year after accepting the influx of hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees.
The authorities currently allow only a few refugees crossing into Jordan through a post funded by the UN in a secluded area near the border with Iraq, where, according to humanitarian agencies have to spend days of hardship to come.
