Nawaz Saharif assures full support for military operation in North Waziristan
Friday, June 20th, 2014 7:56:18 by Shakira SubhaniPakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has assured full support for the military to successfully carry out the operation against the terrorists in the North Waziristan. Sharif was visiting the Headquarters of the Peshawar Corps of Pakistan Army.
Senior commanders of the Pakistan Army briefed the prime minister, who was also accompanied by Army Chief General Raheel Sharif, on the operation Zarb-i-Azb. They were told that 232 terrorists of various terrorist groups were killed during the ongoing operation. Senior commanders also told the prime minister that communication network of terrorists was also destroyed along with 20 terrorists sanctuaries in the area.
Army commanders said that supply line of militants have been cut and armed forces have encircled the terrorists stronghold to stop fleeing militants.
Prime minister was also told about the serious national security threat posed by the presence of East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) and International Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) in the region. Senior commanders were confident that security forces will achieve all the major targets during the six weeks long first phase of the operation Zab-i-Azb.
It was Nawaz Sharif’s first visit of the Headquarters of the Peshawar Corps of Pakistan Army after taking the charge as the Prime Minister of Pakistan about one year ago. He laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shohada and offered prayer for the eternal peace of the Shohada.
Governor Khyber Pakthunkhwa Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, Minister for Defence Khawaj Muhammad Asif also accompanied the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
