Rawalpindi administration bans rallies and meetings for 48 hours
Sunday, June 22nd, 2014 10:11:59 by Shakira SubhaniRawalpindi administration has imposed Section 144 in the city for the next 2 days banning rallies and meetings, carrying political party flags and banners at the Benezir International Airport premises. Media reports suggest that mobile phone services will also be suspended in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
Rawalpindi DCO siad in a statement that 48 hours restrictions starting from Sunday midnight to Tuesday midnight have been imposed on carrying and exhibition of arms, pillion riding and use of loudspeakers. In addition, any person carrying banners and party flags will be not be allowed to enter airport.
The administration of Rawalpindi and Islamabad tonight is expected to suspend cell phone service to disrupt the communication between Pakistan Awami Tehreek and the other coalition parties. The police has blocked all roads leading to the airport, however, travellers will be allowed to enter airport after showing a valid air ticket or other traveling documents.
Pakistan Awami Tehreek leader Dr. Tahirul Qadri is expected to arrive in Islamabad from Dubai on Monday morning. His followers and workers along with workers and leaders of other coalition parties will be gathering at the airport to welcome him.
