Emirates airline stops flight operations to Peshawar
Wednesday, June 25th, 2014 11:16:56 by Nadeem BajwaEmirates airline has announced suspending all the flight operations to and from Peshawar airport indefinitely after Pakistan International Airline (PIA) flight from Riyadh came under gun fire while landing at the airport.
Emirates airline has cited security situation as the reason for suspending flight operation at the Bacha Khan International airport with immediate effect. The passengers destined for Peshawar will be re-booked on alternative flights.
Earlier two flights were diverted to Lahore airport and Islamabad airport due to security reasons. Only one flight was allowed to land at the Peshawar.
One female passanger was killed and two flight attendents were wounded as a result of the firing at the PIA flight PK-756 when unidentified gunman opened fire on the plane when it was about to land at the Bacha Khan airport.
Cathy Pacific airline already stopped its flight operations from Pakistan after the attack on Jinnah International Airport Karachi by terrorists which killed about 40 people.
Airlines have also decided to operate during the daylight only and avoid landing at Pakistan airports at night.
